Цель урока: обобщение и повторение материала по теме “A zoo in my suitcase”.



  • Обеспечить в ходе урока повторение грамматического правила «Употребление определенного артикля с географическими названиями»;

  • Создать условия для отработки навыков и умений в чтении, говорении, восприятии речи на слух;

  • Актуализировать знания по теме «Растительный и животный мир Беларуси и Великобритании»


  • Создать условия для развития коммуникативных навыков через монологическую и диалогическую речь;

  • Создать условия для развития таких аналитических способностей учащихся как умение анализировать и делать выводы;

  • Создать условия для развития памяти, внимания


  • Способствовать развитию культуры взаимоотношений при работе в парах.

  • Содействовать повышению уровня мотивации через использование наглядности на уроке.

  1. Warm up

p.31 ex. 1a Listen to the poem and read it in pairs

-Have you ever seen Tahiti?

- Never, never! What a pity!

-Have you ever been to Chile?

-Never, never, never, really.

-Have you ever travelled far?

- Only once, we went by car.

-Have you ever wanted to?

- Always! What about you?

Students answer the last question.

Work in pairs.

  1. Speaking

Look at the board (slide). What can you see there? Can you guess what the topic of our lesson is? Yes, you are quite right. The topic of our lesson is The nature of Belarus. And at today’s lesson we’ll speak about nature, read and listen some texts, revise our grammar material.

But what is nature?

Ss: -it’s flowers, animals, forests, trees.

Do you agree that nature is our wealth?

Ss: Yes.

There are pictures of different animals on the board.

  1. Reading and listening

Now let’s read the text about the nature of Belarus. Choose the right option. (p.34, ex.3a)

Now listen and follow in the book. Check your predictions.

Were you right?

Now let’s complete the mind-map according this text. And one of you will make a short report on it.

You’ve already learnt the grammar rule of using the definite article before geographical names. Now it’s time to show your knowledge. Here on the table you can see the cards with geographical names. You are to divide them into two groups. (The first group finds the names with “the”, the second group finds the words without “the”).

It’s time to continue our work. And our nature is not only the flowers and trees, it’s also animals. And our task is to read the texts in pairs and complete the table. Then present your results to the class.

Thanks a lot for your information. But there are a lot of other endangered animals in the world. And the next task for you is to read the information and match the numbers and the pictures. Then you are to rank the animals from the most endangered to the least endangered.

Well, nature is our wealth. We can’t live without nature. Now let’s try to answer the question : what should we do to save the planet? Look at this tree. Do you like it? Why?

Ss: there are no leaves in the tree.

Right you are. This tree is The Tree of Deeds. Let’s decorate it. I’ve got some leaves. They are green and yellow. On the board you can see some phrases. Say what we should or shouldn’t do to save our nature, our Earth. So a green leaf is what we should do, a yellow one is shouldn’t do.

(Ss go to the board and stick the leaves saying: We should/ shouldn’t …)

  1. Round-up

Look! What a beautiful tree! Now it’s bright, colourful. If we protect our nature, we’ll save our Earth. So, Ss, thanks a lot for your work. Our lesson is going to be over, but I’ve got a present for you. If you want to get this present, you’ll have to decode one phrase. This phrase is our motto today.

(Ss guess the phrase: “Every Day Should Be Earth Day”, I give them the

card with this phrase).

Well, our lesson is over. I hope, Ss, you’ll remember that our nature is our wealth.

The nature of Belarus

Have you ever visited Belarus? Mother Nature gave Belarus beautiful blue lakes, thick forests and many species of animals and plants. There are 11/111/1,111 species of trees and about 1,200/12,000/120,000 species of plants and mushrooms in Belarus. There are fir and pine wood trees, oaks and ash-trees in Belarusian forests. Some oaks in Belovezhskaya Pushcha are from 30/300/3,000 to 70/700/7,000 years old.

More than 300/3,000/30,000 species of animals live in the wilds of our country: elks, wild boars, deer, wolves, hares and beavers. You’ll never forget meeting a herd of European bison. This animal is one of the symbols of Belarus. Unfortunately, people have always killed wild animals uncontrollably, so many of them are in danger now.

There are also about 60/600/6,000 species of fish and 305/3,050/30,000 species

of birds in our republic. Belarusian lakes are rich in fish, especially Lake Naroch,

where you can find eel, trout and pike. There are practically no dangerous snakes in Belarus.

Have you ever been to our national parks? In Pripyatsky National Park you can

see 20/200/2000 moss species! Welcome to our beautiful blue-eyed country! You

will fall in love with our nature.

1.Koalas live in Australia. The word “Koala” means “an animal that doesn’t drink water”. They sleep in trees – because eucalyptus leaves are their food. Koalas sleep eighteen hours a day. What is very unusual indeed: koalas eat at night. Koalas are very funny animals. Unfortunately, now there are only between 40,000 and 80,ooo koalas in the world. People are cutting down forests and koalas are in danger. The greatest dangers for koalas are cars and dogs. Koalas are very slow and helpless. 2. One of the most popular animals in the zoo is the panda. There are two species of panda – the red panda and the black-and-white panda. Children and grown-ups wait for hours to see the panda eating and doing acrobatics. Panda’s favourite food is bamboo. Wild pandas live in China, in the areas where bamboo grows. Pandas are in danger now, because people are cutting down the forests where they live and can find food. there are only about 1000 pandas left in China.


3. The European bison lives in Belovezhskaya Pushcha in Belarus and in Poland. Many years ago it used to live across Europe and Asia, from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans. Now there are about 870 animals in the forests of Belarus and Poland. The bison are the biggest and strongest European animals. The bison is a grass-eating animal/ have you seen a European bison in the wild?

4. Beavers build canals, and lodges (homes). They are slow on land, but they are very good swimmers. They can stay under water for 15 minutes. They can’t see well, but their senses of hearing, smell, and touch are very good. They use front teeth to cut trees and plants for building and for food. Beavers in Europe grow to about 0.61 m. long (plus 25cm of tail). They are active in the morning and late in the evening. People have always hunted beavers. But the beaver is not in danger in Europe now. Hundreds of beavers live in Belarus and Poland. The animal has also come back to the Morava River in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
